“Opale & Sens” stands as a manifesto piece within the urban mosaic of “Jardins Secrets,” developed by Vincent Callebaut Architectures for Vestia Groupe in the heart of Montpellier’s Cité Créative. Inheriting an architectural language inspired by Art Nouveau 2.0, the project offers a contemporary reinterpretation of organic lines, where nature becomes both a structural matrix and an environmental framework. Delivered in January 2026, the development unfolds as a sensory and immersive architecture in which materiality, light, and vegetation intertwine, creating a habitat in symbiosis with the Mediterranean climate. Our leitmotif: “Sculpting shadow and choregraphing light.”
Opale & Sens reactivates the founding principles of Art Nouveau, projecting them into the 21st century through digital tools and contemporary ecological challenges. The façades unfold like living waves, inspired by vegetal and mineral structures, evoking the translucency and iridescence of opal. The curved, fluid, and non-standard lines are no longer merely ornamental; they become performative, optimizing solar gain, natural ventilation, and views. This biomimetic expression, enabled by parametric design technologies, embodies a fusion of art, science, and ecology - where form follows climate - respecting the path of the sun and the axis of prevailing winds.
Extending this Art Nouveau 2.0 approach, the project develops an architecture of the senses, where each dwelling is conceived as an immersive experience. Natural light is filtered through a large-scale vegetal-inspired mashrabiya, creating evolving shadow patterns, and shifting atmospheres throughout the seasons. Low-carbon and bio-based materials, along with natural textures, reinforce this sensory dimension, while bioclimatic strategies - cross-ventilated patios, passive solar protection, thermal inertia, greywater recycling for irrigation, and solar roofs - ensure optimal comfort with reduced energy demand. Vegetation, omnipresent, acts as a living infrastructure, contributing to thermal regulation and residents’ well-being.
At the heart of the Cité Créative, Opale & Sens embodies a new generation of urbanity inspired by Mediterranean ecosystems. The project integrates into a continuous landscape with the Jardins Secrets and the adjacent Parc Montcalm, forming a garrigue-based biodiversity network where built and planted environments interact continuously. Garden-level dwellings, soft pedestrian lanes, penthouses and panoramic rooftop terraces, and a permeable planted courtyard foster social interaction and recreate an organic form of sociability, echoing interconnected natural systems. This regenerative approach goes beyond sustainability, proposing an urban model capable of generating life, restoring ecological cycles, and strengthening territorial resilience.
With Opale & Sens, Art Nouveau 2.0 finds a renewed expression - both poetic and deeply ecological. The project transcends stylistic reference to become a true design philosophy, where architecture draws inspiration from the living world in order to coexist more harmoniously with it. By reconciling aesthetics, performance, and well-being, Opale & Sens asserts a forward-looking vision of affordable housing, aligned with climate challenges and contemporary aspirations.

Opale & Sens s’inscrit comme une pièce manifeste du puzzle urbain « Jardins Secrets », développé par l’agence Vincent Callebaut Architectures pour le promoteur Vestia Groupe au cœur de la Cité Créative de Montpellier. Héritier d’un langage architectural inspiré de l’Art Nouveau 2.0, l’ensemble propose une réinterprétation contemporaine des lignes organiques, où la nature devient à la fois matrice structurelle et environnementale. Livré en janvier 2026, le projet déploie une architecture sensorielle et immersive, où matière, lumière et végétal s’entrelacent pour offrir un habitat en symbiose avec le climat méditerranéen. Opale & Sens réactive les principes fondateurs de l’Art Nouveau en les projetant dans le XXIe siècle grâce aux outils numériques et aux enjeux écologiques contemporains. Les façades se déploient comme des vagues vivantes, inspirées des structures végétales et minérales, évoquant la translucidité et les irisations de l’opale. Les lignes courbes, fluides et non standardisées ne sont plus seulement ornementales : elles deviennent performatives, optimisant les apports solaires, la ventilation naturelle et les vues. Cette écriture biomimétique, rendue possible par les technologies de conception paramétrique, traduit une fusion entre art, science et écologie, où la forme suit le climat, en respectant la course du soleil et l’axe des vents dominants.
Dans la continuité de cette approche Art Nouveau 2.0, le projet développe une architecture des sens, où chaque logement est conçu comme une expérience immersive. La lumière naturelle est filtrée à travers un moucharabieh géant inspiré du végétal, créant des jeux d’ombres évolutifs et des ambiances changeantes au fil des saisons. Les matériaux bas carbone et biosourcés et les textures naturelles renforcent cette dimension sensible, tandis que les dispositifs bioclimatiques - patio assurant la ventilation traversante, protections solaires passives, inertie thermique, recyclage des eaux grises pour l’irrigation, toitures solaires - assurent un confort optimal avec une empreinte énergétique réduite. Le végétal, omniprésent, agit comme une infrastructure vivante, contribuant à la régulation thermique et au bien-être des habitants.
Au cœur de la Cité Créative, Opale & Sens incarne une nouvelle génération d’urbanité inspirée par les écosystèmes méditerranéens. Le projet s’inscrit dans une continuité paysagère avec les Jardins Secrets et le Parc Montcalm voisin, formant un réseau de biodiversité de Garrigue où les espaces bâtis et plantés interagissent en permanence. Les rez-de-chaussée avec jardin, les venelles douces, les attiques et toitures-terrasses panoramiques, et le cœur d’îlot en pleine terre favorisent les échanges et recréent une sociabilité organique, à l’image des structures naturelles interconnectées. Cette approche régénérative dépasse la simple durabilité pour proposer un modèle urbain capable de produire du vivant, de restaurer les cycles écologiques et de renforcer la résilience du territoire.
Avec Opale & Sens, l’Art Nouveau 2.0 trouve une nouvelle expression, à la fois poétique et profondément écologique. Le projet dépasse la référence stylistique pour devenir une véritable philosophie de conception, où l’architecture s’inspire du vivant pour mieux cohabiter avec lui. En réconciliant esthétique, performance et bien-être, Opale & Sens affirme une vision avant-gardiste de l’habitat abordable, en phase avec les défis climatiques et les aspirations contemporaines.
